A Thoughtful Balance of Mid-Century Character and Contemporary Living

Set within Ladlands, a characterful South East London development designed by Kate Macintosh, this project reimagines a kitchen inside a striking example of late 20th-century architecture. Built during the 1960s/70s, the building carries a strong modernist identity—something the client was keen to honour through their design choices.

Drawing on mid-century modern influences, the scheme introduces warm tones, clean lines, and subtle retro references that sit comfortably within the architectural language of the space. These are thoughtfully balanced with contemporary updates and sustainable materials, ensuring the kitchen feels both timeless and practical for modern living.

The result is a sensitive refresh that respects the original design intent while elevating it—bringing together retro character, ecological awareness, and a refined, modern finish.
