The following content represents a first pass design of what the flood resilient kitchen may be laid out, utilising ex-display cabinetry, cabinetry held in storage, and new cabinetry. Images of the ex-display cabinetry can be found on this website for the NSBRC Display Kitchen.
Elevations
The following elevations include cabinet labels that indicate which are likely to be accepted by insurers as being "adequate" flood resilient solutions, compared with those that are likely to be considered "bettermeant". In the context of Flood Re and Build Back Better, repairs and replacements must be "Flood Resilient Adequate". This means an insurer will agree to upgrades that ensure the solution becomes "adequate" as a flood resilient measure. In the context of a kitchen they may consider adding features that did not exist within the ripped out kitchen as "bettermeant". For example, if the older corner units only had shelves and the new corner units have magic corner mechanisms, they are likely to consider the magic corners as "bettermeant". In this instance, they are going to agree to fund the cost of a corner unit with shelves, and not the magic corner mechanism.
No Doors
The following images show the open nature of the Puustelli Miinus system, with doors removed. In the event of a high risk of flood alert, the door fronts can be quickly unclipped and stored in elevated locations. The drawers can also be quickly removed.
